We held a charity presentation buffet on Friday 15th in aid of Carers Support Wiltshire, my nominated charity for this year. It was a splendid evening and very tearful. This group does some stunning work with young people who are caring for adults and even adults siblings. They get very little support or respite from their caring. The team at Semington give help and breaks to encourage them to socialise with others. The funds help them carry out training, and a monthly meeting at a local cafe for a snack.
During the year, the lodge has raised £3,250 from raffles, summer BBQ, Ladies night and generous donations.
The cheque was presented to Andrea James, Care Worker Officer, by David Hipperson, Worshipful Master on behalf of the Lodge. This was received with tearful emotions.
Carers Support help young people who are caring for an adult by giving them support, advice and training. They also encourage them to continue with their education, as so may drop out of school because of their caring duties. This support has now seen three young carers take up university places.
